Short answer: This black Ford Mustang GT got a two-step paint correction followed by our Ceramic Pro Advanced Coat (Ceramic Pro 9H plus Top Coat, 5-year warranty), which starts at $1,199 for a car. On black paint, the correction is what removes the swirls; the ceramic coating is what keeps that finish looking corrected. Coating alone would have sealed the swirls in.

Black paint is the hardest color to keep looking good. Every wash scratch, every swirl from a gas-station brush and every water spot shows up the moment the sun hits it. This Mustang GT came to Kingdom Window Tint for one service only: ceramic coating, done right, which on black paint means correcting the paint first.
No film or tint on this job, and no add-ons. Just paint correction and coating, and why the order matters.
Why Paint Correction Comes Before Ceramic Coating
A ceramic coating is clear. It bonds to whatever is on the surface and locks it in for years. If the paint has swirl marks when the coating goes on, the swirls are still there afterward, now sealed under a glossy layer that makes them even easier to see.
That is why we inspect the paint before quoting a coating. On a light-colored car in good shape, the Stage 1 polish included in every package is usually enough. On this black Mustang, the paint needed more, so we did a full two-step correction before any coating went on.
What a Two-Step Paint Correction Is
Paint correction means removing a very thin layer of clear coat to level out the scratches in it. A two-step correction does that in two passes:
- Step 1, cutting: a more aggressive compound and pad remove the swirl marks and light scratches.
- Step 2, polishing: a finer polish and softer pad remove the haze the cutting step leaves behind and bring the gloss back up.
A one-step polish combines the two into a single pass. It is faster and great for paint in decent shape, but on black paint with visible swirls, the second step is what gets the finish truly clear.
Before the machine work, the car was washed, clay-barred and treated with iron remover so the pads only touch clean paint. Contamination left on the surface gets dragged around by the polisher and creates new marks.
The Advanced Coat on the Mustang GT
Once the paint was corrected, it was wiped down with a paint sanitizer to remove polishing oils so the coating could bond, then the trim was masked. The Advanced Coat puts two products on the paint:
- 1 layer of Ceramic Pro 9H, the hard base layer.
- 1 layer of Ceramic Pro Top Coat over it for slickness and water behavior.
- Ceramic Pro Glass on the windshield, which comes with every package.
The Advanced Coat carries a 5-year warranty. It is the same package we put on a GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate, but that truck’s light paint only needed the standard Stage 1 polish. The difference between those two jobs is the paint, not the coating.

The Result on Black Paint
The best way to judge corrected black paint is the reflections. Before correction, swirl marks scatter light into a web of fine circles around every light source. After correction, reflections are sharp and the paint looks deep instead of hazy.

What Ceramic Coating Won’t Fix on a Mustang
Ceramic coating doesn’t remove swirls; correction does. And it doesn’t stop rock chips. A Mustang’s long hood and low front bumper take hits on the highway, and a coating is too thin to absorb them. If chips worry you, add paint protection film on the front end. Our C8 Corvette PPF and ceramic coating build shows what that combination looks like on a sports car, and our ceramic coating over PPF post explains the order of the layers.

Ceramic Coating Cost for a Mustang in Lewisville
For a car like the Mustang GT, our ceramic coating packages start at $799 for the Essential Coat (2-year warranty), $1,199 for the Advanced Coat (5-year warranty) and $1,599 for the Ultimate Coat (lifetime warranty). Every package includes decontamination and a Stage 1 polish. A two-step correction is extra work beyond that, so we price it after inspecting your paint.

Keeping Corrected Black Paint Swirl-Free
Correction removes the swirls; how you wash decides whether they come back. The coating makes washing easier, but black paint still rewards care:
- Use two buckets, one with soap and one to rinse the mitt, so grit goes into the rinse bucket and not back onto the paint.
- Never dry-wipe dust off black paint. Rinse it off. Wiping a dusty panel is the fastest way to put swirls back.
- Dry with a clean, plush microfiber or a blower, not a used towel or a chamois.
- Stay away from automatic brush washes. They undo a paint correction faster than anything else.
- Wash in the shade. Water and soap dry fast on black paint in the Texas sun and leave spots.

FAQ
Do you need paint correction before ceramic coating?
Every coating needs some polishing first so it bonds to clean, refined paint, and all of our packages include a Stage 1 polish. A full two-step correction is needed when the paint has visible swirls or scratches you want gone, which is common on black and other dark colors.
What is the difference between one-step and two-step paint correction?
A one-step correction uses a single polish to improve the paint in one pass. A two-step correction cuts the defects out first, then polishes the haze away, for a clearer finish on paint that needs more work.
Does ceramic coating remove swirl marks?
No. Ceramic coating can make light swirls a little less noticeable, but it doesn’t remove them. Paint correction removes swirls; the coating protects the corrected finish.
How much does ceramic coating cost for a Ford Mustang?
At Kingdom Window Tint, ceramic coating for a car starts at $799 (Essential Coat), $1,199 (Advanced Coat) or $1,599 (Ultimate Coat). Paint correction beyond the included Stage 1 polish is quoted after we inspect the paint.
Is ceramic coating worth it on a black car?
Black is where it pays off most. A coated surface releases dirt more easily, so you rub the paint less to get it clean, and less rubbing means fewer new swirls on a color that shows every one.
